Welcome to Kindergarten!

Welcome to our kindergarten class! I am so very excited to be working with your children and your family this year and am looking forward to an outstanding year together. Kindergarten is a very exciting time in the lives of children and families. I am pleased to be a part of your child’s life this year and am committed to ensuring they succeed in my classroom and in preparing for first grade.

Over the next few weeks, we will be working to get to know one another and our daily routines here at school. I would like to ask our families to please fill out the attached survey to help me get to know your child and tailor his/her educational experience to their interests and needs. Every child in our classroom will be different and with your help and I can work to meet the children’s needs better and involve their interests. I would appreciate it if you could please return this survey within the first week of school if possible.

I strongly believe that I will be most effective in educating your children by partnering with you, the parents. Parents are a child’s first and best teacher and as such I will look to you for support in encouraging your child’s learning, showing interest in their progress, and completing weekly homework assignments. I understand that families are busy, so I will strive to limit homework to a manageable amount each week. Please remember that your involvement shows your child that you value their education and that it is important to you. Please let me know if you have any concerns, questions, or problems in receiving or completing homework assignments so I can work with you.

Regarding your child’s day, I will send home a daily folder which will contain your child’s homework for the week and a daily calendar indicating what type of day they had. Folders are marked as follows:

 Green-GREAT day!

Yellow-A couple of warnings and challenges today (I will leave you a note on why).

Red-It was a rough day and I need your help. (Again, I will leave a note in the folder for you with the specifics).

Please check and sign your child’s folder each night. Feel free to write me a note back to communicate anything at all. I will strive to manage children’s behavior within the classroom and will only move their color after multiple attempts to remedy the problem within the classroom. I appreciate your support tremendously in working with your child’s behavior. I firmly believe that if we work together, we will have a GREAT experience and a great year.

We will have lunch each day at 10:30 and Kindergarteners oftentimes get hungry in the afternoons. I would like to ask that parents please send a healthy snack with your child each day (pretzels, crackers, etc.) and a small bottle of water or a juice box for snack time. You may send these in your child’s backpack each day.

Kindergarteners sometimes have restroom accidents. Please make sure your child has a change of clothes in his/her backpack to avoid being called to bring clothes if this happens.

I am available each day during my conference period to discuss any concerns or issues you may have related to your child. You can send me a note with a contact number or request a conference at any time to discuss any concerns you have. I am here to help and will make myself available to help support your child in any way I can. Let’s have a GREAT year together and thanks for letting me be a part of your child’s life!!!!!
